The couple was forced to cancel their flights and accommodations, facing potential financial losses and the heartbreaking possibility of missing this once-in-a-lifetime celebration.
The application process for a UK passport can take over eight weeks, which, as you can imagine, puts many travelers in a tight spot. The COE option, while available, also presents challenges, including fees exceeding $1,000, and the uncertainty of appointment wait times.
Chris from Queensland shares a similar story. He planned to visit his elderly father, who is battling cancer, with his wife and daughters. Sadly, due to the new rules and complications with his daughters' passports, he may not be able to see his father before it's too late. He also found it impossible to get clear answers from the UK passport office, emphasizing the lack of accessible support.
Rosie Workman, a British-born Australian, is also scrambling to obtain passports for herself and her son, with less than six weeks until their trip. She is concerned about the processing time and the lack of express options.
And this is the part most people miss... The impact of these changes is widespread. In the past financial year, 635,000 Australians visited the UK, and as of June 2024, there were 934,000 England-born people living in Australia.
Sydney CEO Billy Tucker is another affected individual. His business trip to London for a conference is now in jeopardy. He is worried about the potential costs and the uncertainty surrounding the application process.
