Oil Prices to Rise in 2026: TotalEnergies CEO's Optimistic Outlook (2026)

Are you ready for some good news, oil enthusiasts? TotalEnergies' CEO, Patrick Pouyanne, is optimistic about a price rebound in 2026! He shared his insights with Bloomberg, painting a picture of a market poised for improvement. The core of his prediction? Growing demand and strategic moves by major players.

Pouyanne highlighted that demand is still on the rise. He also expressed confidence in OPEC's ability to manage the situation and U.S. producers' willingness to adjust production, all contributing to a more balanced market.

This comes after Brent crude dipped below $60 for the first time in months, alongside an annual decline for both the international benchmark and West Texas Intermediate. A slight rebound occurred following a declaration of a "blockade" on Venezuelan crude tankers, but the overall feeling of oversupply and weak demand continued to weigh on prices. Interestingly, the contango structure, where future contract prices are higher than near-term ones, suggests an expectation of tightening supply down the line.

But here's where it gets controversial... Pouyanne takes a less optimistic view on natural gas. He anticipates a price drop due to new liquefaction capacity coming online in about two years. Bloomberg energy analysts agree, predicting a glut in liquefied natural gas production capacity from the U.S. and Qatar, just as the European Union's ban on Russian gas imports takes full effect.

European gas prices have already fallen to their lowest point in over a year due to ample supply and relatively weak demand. However, the EU is still struggling to fill its gas storage to meet peak demand season targets. The current EU total stands at 69.3%, and Germany is at 62.65%, both below the levels needed to ensure supply security during the winter months.

What do you think? Do you agree with Pouyanne's outlook on oil and gas? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Are you concerned about the EU's gas storage levels? Let's discuss!
