Wimbledon Day 1: A Day of Slips, Surprises, and British Blues
The first day of Wimbledon 2026 was a rollercoaster, with stars slipping on the grass, defending champions surviving scares, and British hopes taking a hit. It was a day that showcased the unique challenges of grass-court tennis and the resilience of its players.

British Blues
It was a rough day for British tennis stars. Emma Raducanu withdrew with a stress fracture, and Jack Draper followed suit with a recurrence of his left arm injury. Among the 10 British players on court, only Jack Pinnington Jones survived, losing to Brandon Nakashima when their match was halted for light.
Cameron Norrie, the 2022 semifinalist, couldn't do it, falling to qualifier Michael Zheng in a five-set thriller. Harriet Dart and Ollie Tarvet also suffered losses, with Dart losing to Jelena Ostapenko and Tarvet to Arthur Rinderknech.
